FORGIVE- NEVER FORGET
We Must forgive --and Never forget
Although we often advise that we must forgive and forget-- that somehow this is Godly or spiritual or biblical or something.
What we need to keep in mind is that only God is capable of truly forgetting. We must forgive as a matter of respect for our Creator and response to His love. But to forget is often unwise, unbiblical, impossible, and dangerous.
We should understand that to forgive is a divine commandment and absolutely required by the Lord. But to forget would get rid of the very things God wanted us to learn when He allowed us to go through the pain in the first place.
If His purpose was to strengthen our character, help us develop patience, give insight into a situation or develop compassion for the lost and hurting-- then it is a major mistake to tell someone they must forgive and forget.
If we are trying to forget the very pain and anguish that God is trying to give us insight into, we will never be able to forgive.
God's intention is for us to take the insight we have learned and use it to reach out to others so He might draw them to Himself. Remember to forgive AND forget is God's place and only He is capable of that.
We should forgive the act for our own mental and spiritual well being. But WE must remember the pain and hurt so we may be of service to Him in reaching out to others.
